The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of extremely heavy rainfall across several parts of Telangana as Cyclone Arnab is expected to intensify over the Bay of Bengal. According to weather officials, the current depression is likely to strengthen into a very severe cyclonic storm by October 27 before making landfall on October 28. In response, the IMD has placed Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts under a red alert, urging residents and local authorities to remain on high alert due to the possibility of flooding, waterlogging and disruption to normal life.
The weather department has also issued an orange alert for Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Hanamkonda, Warangal, Mahabubabad and Suryapet districts, while yellow alerts remain in effect for several other eastern and central Telangana districts. Weather experts have indicated that eastern parts of the state are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with strong winds expected to accompany the storm. Authorities are closely monitoring the cyclone’s movement and have advised people in vulnerable areas to stay updated with official weather bulletins and avoid unnecessary travel during the peak impact period.
Hyderabad is also expected to experience the effects of Cyclone Arnab, although the impact is likely to be less severe than in eastern Telangana. The IMD has forecast light rain and thundershowers in the city beginning October 29, with intermittent rainfall likely to continue into early November. While no weather alert has been issued for Hyderabad so far, officials have advised residents to exercise caution during periods of rain, plan their travel in advance and remain prepared for temporary traffic disruptions and localized waterlogging as the cyclone influences weather conditions across the state.
