Differences within the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process have come to light, according to a report by The Indian Express. The report claims that over the past 10 months, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi formally raised 14 objections regarding various aspects of the SIR exercise. Their concerns reportedly covered voter deletion appeals, changes to Form 6, and the management of the electoral roll database.

According to the report, the two Commissioners questioned changes made to Form 6, saying they were introduced without the required legal approval. They also expressed concerns over access to the ERONet portal and the growing centralisation of the electoral roll database. In some instances, the Commissioners reportedly wrote to senior officials and even the Cabinet Secretary, alleging that important administrative changes had been made without their knowledge or approval.

Following the report, opposition parties demanded action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, while the Election Commission said that the issues raised by the Commissioners were part of routine internal discussions aimed at improving electoral processes. The ECI maintained that its major decisions were taken unanimously but did not specifically address several of the objections highlighted in the report.
