A criminal case has been filed against Congress leader Naveen Yadav for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the upcoming by-election in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills constituency. According to officials, Yadav was accused of distributing voter identity cards to the public, a move that directly breaches election guidelines laid down by the Election Commission of India. The MCC came into immediate effect on Monday evening following the announcement of the by-poll schedule by the Election Commission.
As per reports, the complaint was lodged by the local election officer at the Madhuranagar police station. The officer stated that Yadav’s act of personally distributing Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) to voters constituted an attempt to unduly influence the electorate. Police officials have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Public Representatives Act, and an investigation is underway to determine the extent of the violation and identify others possibly involved in the distribution process.
The by-election for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency is scheduled to be held on November 11, and enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct has intensified across the city. Election authorities have urged all political parties to strictly adhere to the code to ensure free and fair polling. This incident has sparked sharp political reactions, with opposition parties calling for transparency in the inquiry and demanding firm action to uphold electoral integrity in Telangana’s capital.
