Hyderabad: BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy has been granted bail by a city court after his arrest for allegedly threatening a police officer at the Banjara Hills Police Station. The Huzurabad legislator was taken into custody from his residence amidst high drama and later produced before a magistrate in Nagole. The court imposed a penalty of ₹5,000 and directed Reddy to provide two sureties. The magistrate also warned the MLA against repeating such behavior. Since the charges against him entail a punishment of less than seven years, bail was granted under legal provisions.
The incident occurred when Reddy visited the police station to lodge a complaint regarding alleged phone tapping. He confronted SHO Raghavendra, insisting he should not leave the station without taking the complaint. The disagreement escalated, leading to the MLA’s supporters obstructing the SHO’s vehicle and raising slogans. A case was registered against Reddy and his associates for unlawful assembly, criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint, and public nuisance. Following his release on bail, Kaushik Reddy denied any wrongdoing and accused the police of acting against him illegally. He vowed to continue raising issues on behalf of his constituency.
This arrest comes at a time when tensions between political figures and law enforcement have been under the spotlight in Telangana. The MLA’s actions and subsequent arrest have sparked debates about the responsibilities and conduct of public representatives. While the police emphasized their duty to maintain law and order, Reddy maintained that his arrest was a misuse of power, promising to stand firm in his advocacy for the people of Huzurabad.
