New Delhi: Over 40 schools in Delhi, including DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka Public School, Paschim Vihar, received bomb threats via email on Monday morning, prompting authorities to send students home as a precaution. The threatening email demanded a ransom of $30,000, stating that multiple small bombs had been planted within the school premises. The sender claimed the bombs were “hidden very well” and would cause injuries if detonated. Delhi Police were alerted to the threats, which reportedly started arriving late on Sunday night, and security personnel were deployed across the affected schools.
Authorities confirmed that apart from DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka, schools like Mother Mary’s School, British School, Salwan Public School, and Cambridge School were also targeted. Schools immediately issued emergency alerts to parents, requesting them to collect their children from bus stops or the school premises. Mother Mary’s School, in its message to parents, assured them that dispersal was being carried out as a precautionary measure, with updates being provided on student safety. Delhi Police are investigating the emails, treating the matter with utmost urgency.
The incident sparked a political blame game, with Delhi Chief Minister Atishi accusing the BJP-led central government of failing to ensure security. Former CM Arvind Kejriwal also criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that the law and order situation in Delhi had never been worse. The bomb threats come amid growing concerns over rising crime and safety issues in the capital, leaving parents and residents alarmed about the state of security in schools.
