The newly shifted Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) near Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, which was expected to ease the burden of Old City residents, has already come under criticism from applicants. Many complain of confusion in the process and lack of clear communication from staff, leaving people uncertain about waiting times and required steps. For several applicants, the experience has turned stressful, with family members waiting outside the centre in uncomfortable conditions.
Seating arrangements have emerged as a major concern. With limited chairs available, many applicants and their families are forced to sit on the floor at MGBS while waiting for their turn. Some tried seeking shelter at the nearby VFS service area, but officials reportedly denied them entry. Residents from Bahadurpura, Yakutpura, and even those traveling from outside Hyderabad have voiced frustration, especially when accompanying elderly family members who require guidance and comfort during the process.
Currently, Hyderabad has three passport centres: Begumpet, Chaderghat (shifted from Ameerpet), and Raidurg (moved from Tolichowki). While the relocation of the PSK closer to the Old City was meant to provide relief to southern residents, the ground reality reflects poor planning. Without adequate seating and clearer instructions, applicants continue to struggle. Authorities have been urged to act quickly, ensuring basic facilities like waiting areas and guidance support so that the PSK truly benefits those it was intended to serve.
