AIMIM Announces 25 Candidates for Bihar Assembly Elections; Owaisi Targets Voice for the Marginalised

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, has officially released its list of 25 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The party aims to strengthen its foothold in the state and represent marginalised communities. The polling for Bihar’s 243 Assembly seats is scheduled in two phases on November 6 and 11, with vote counting on November 14. In its post on X, AIMIM declared its intent to become the “voice of the most oppressed people in Bihar,” emphasising that the candidate selection was carried out by the Bihar unit after consultations with the party’s national leadership.

Among the announced names, key candidates include Mohammed Kaif from Siwan, Anas Salam from Gopalganj, Advocate Shams Aagaz from Kishanganj, Rashid Khalil Ansari from Madhubani, and Mohammad Manzoor Alam from Araria. AIMIM’s entry comes at a critical juncture as Bihar politics witnesses intense competition between the NDA and the INDIA bloc led by Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD, Congress, CPI (ML), and other allies. While the Congress recently released its second list of candidates, the Mahagathbandhan continues to face internal friction over seat-sharing, resulting in what some leaders are calling a “friendly fight” in certain constituencies.

The elections are expected to be a multi-front battle featuring not just the established alliances but also new entrants like Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj party, which plans to appeal to Bihar’s youth and reform-minded voters. Political analysts suggest that AIMIM’s strategy focuses on consolidating its influence in Muslim-majority regions while challenging both traditional blocs. As the campaign heats up, issues such as unemployment, minority representation, and governance failures are set to dominate the political narrative.
