Drunken Man Sets Multiple Vehicles Ablaze in Jeedimetla, Hyderabad

In a disturbing incident that unfolded early Tuesday morning in Hyderabad’s Jeedimetla area, a heavily intoxicated man reportedly set multiple vehicles on fire. The accused, identified as 42-year-old Anjan Goud, is said to be battling alcoholism and mounting financial debt. According to local police, the arson occurred around 3:25 am in the Markandeya Nagar locality, where Goud allegedly poured petrol on a row of parked vehicles before igniting them. The sudden flames and smoke sent panic across the neighborhood, with several residents rushing out in fear as their vehicles turned to ashes.

Jeedimetla Circle Inspector Mallesh confirmed that Goud also threatened local residents during the incident, further aggravating the tense situation. Visuals shared on social media show the aftermath: two burnt-out cars, a charred auto-rickshaw, and at least three completely destroyed motorcycles. While no injuries were reported, the damage to personal property has left many residents shaken and demanding stricter vigilance in the area. The motive, beyond intoxication and personal despair, is still being investigated by law enforcement.

Police have booked the accused under Section 326 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for mischief by fire and causing damage. Authorities say he will undergo psychological evaluation and custodial interrogation. The incident has once again raised questions about public safety, mental health support, and alcohol addiction in urban spaces. Residents of Markandeya Nagar have called for increased night patrolling and immediate compensation for the victims.
