New Delhi: The Delhi Police is investigating the role of an NGO, allegedly linked to a political party, in a series of bomb threat emails sent to schools in South Delhi. The threats, the most recent on January 8, were reportedly sent by a 16-year-old boy, who was detained earlier. Authorities are now probing the involvement of the boy’s father, who is said to have ties with the NGO known for its criticism of Afzal Guru’s hanging.
According to Special Commissioner of Police Madhup Tewari, the juvenile sent over 400 emails, with one case involving threats to 250 schools on a single day in May. The police stated that the motive behind the emails remains unclear, as some were sent on non-examination days. The minor used free VPN services, which eventually revealed his original IP address, helping authorities trace him. Investigators are also analyzing email patterns, noting that most targeted schools were in South Delhi.
The NGO’s activities have drawn attention, particularly its vocal stance on controversial issues. The police are exploring whether its association influenced the boy’s actions. Authorities emphasize the importance of uncovering the motive behind these threats, which disrupted schools and caused panic.
