Bengaluru Techie Suicide: Estranged Wife, Family Sent to Judicial Custody

Bengaluru: In a tragic case that has drawn national attention, three accused — Nikita Singhania, wife of senior tech executive Atul Subhash, her mother Nisha Singhania, and brother Anurag Singhania — have been sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Bengaluru court. The arrests follow the suicide of Atul Subhash, who left behind a harrowing 90-minute video and a 40-page note, alleging severe harassment by his wife and her family over a ₹3 crore divorce settlement. Karnataka Police apprehended the accused from Gurugram and Prayagraj and brought them to Bengaluru for legal proceedings.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Atul had planned his suicide weeks in advance, citing unbearable emotional and financial strain caused by false legal accusations and extortion by his in-laws. The FIR, filed by his younger brother Bikas Kumar, accuses the family of abetment to suicide under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita provisions. In his suicide note titled “Justice is Due,” Atul detailed his struggles with the legal system, alleging corruption and judicial bias. He requested that his ashes remain unscattered until justice is served and urged the judiciary to prevent similar misuse of laws that could destroy other lives.

The note also addressed his two-year-old child, expressing anguish over the situation and pleading for the child’s custody to remain with his parents. Subhash condemned his wife’s alleged greed and manipulation, emphasizing the need for judicial reform to protect victims of false cases. With the investigation ongoing and more arrests likely, the case has sparked a broader debate on legal abuse and mental health awareness, shedding light on the toll such conflicts can take on individuals and families.
