“Telangana High Court Orders State to Reclaim Land from IT Firms”

The Telangana High Court has directed the state government to reclaim land allotted to several IT firms, including Indu Techzone Private Limited and Brahmani Infratech Pvt Ltd, for failing to establish the units they had promised. The court ordered the government to take back 250 acres of land from each of these companies within four months.

The court’s decision came in response to a 2007 petition filed by Campaign for Housing and Tenurial Rights (CHATRI), a non-profit organization. The petition questioned the state’s decision to allot huge tracts of public land on a nomination basis instead of through auction.

The court, however, refused to interfere with the state’s software industries policy, which aimed to attract investments in the software sector by allotting land to companies. The policy had been successful in creating jobs and making Hyderabad a destination for information technology, the court noted.
