Expelled AIMIM MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig has rejected all allegations against him and announced that he will not resign from his post in the Telangana Legislative Council despite being directed to do so by the party. In his first public response after the expulsion, Baig said he had committed no wrongdoing and described the allegations circulating against him as false. He also expressed hope that AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi would ensure justice and said he still wished to continue serving as a party worker.
Baig claimed that deepfake videos and morphed content had been created and circulated online to damage his reputation. He denied allegations linked to the reported sexual assault case involving a minor and insisted there was no truth to the accusations. He also clarified that he had not gone into hiding, explaining that he had been on an Umrah pilgrimage and returned to Hyderabad on August 29. Earlier, Baig had approached the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police, alleging that unidentified individuals had attempted to blackmail him by threatening to release fake photos and videos unless he paid money.
The controversy has sparked a major political debate in Telangana, with the BJP and BRS demanding a transparent and impartial investigation into the allegations. On August 29, AIMIM expelled Mirza Rahmath Baig from the party with immediate effect and instructed him to resign from the Legislative Council, although the party did not publicly state the reason for the disciplinary action. Despite the directive, Baig has made it clear that he has no intention of stepping down as an MLC and will continue to defend himself against the allegations.
