Iran Expands Retaliatory Strikes Across Gulf as Regional Tensions Escalate

The conflict between the United States and Iran intensified on Monday as Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for a fresh wave of retaliatory strikes targeting U.S. military facilities across the Gulf region. According to Iranian state media, the attacks included U.S. bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, while the IRGC also claimed it destroyed radar systems in Oman. Bahrain activated missile warning sirens multiple times and urged residents to take shelter, while Kuwait said its armed forces intercepted hostile aerial targets. Jordanian authorities also reported shooting down several missiles that entered the country’s airspace.

The escalation came after the U.S. military announced a new series of precision strikes against multiple targets inside Iran, saying the operation was aimed at reducing Tehran’s ability to threaten international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media reported that one person was killed and four others were injured in the U.S. strikes in Khuzestan province. Meanwhile, the IRGC said its retaliatory operation was continuing and claimed to have targeted military infrastructure, including Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan and U.S. facilities in Bahrain, as part of its response to the American offensive.

The renewed hostilities have heightened concerns over regional security and global energy supplies. Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz dropped to its lowest level in several weeks as many vessels altered routes or switched off tracking systems while crossing the strategic waterway. Oil prices climbed sharply following the latest exchange of attacks, reflecting fears of prolonged instability in one of the world’s most important energy corridors. Diplomatic efforts to preserve the fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran continue, but the latest military escalation has raised fresh doubts over the prospects for a lasting de-escalation.
