At least 18 Amarnath pilgrims sustained minor injuries after a chain-reaction road accident involving multiple vehicles at Langar Point in the Chanderkote area of Ramban district on Monday. The incident occurred along the busy Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, a key route used by thousands of pilgrims travelling to the Amarnath shrine during the annual yatra. Emergency response teams and local authorities rushed to the spot and provided immediate assistance to the injured.
According to officials, the accident took place when two Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) buses, travelling as part of a Pahalgam-bound convoy, collided while passing through the congested stretch of the highway. The impact caused one of the buses to veer into a nearby car, which was then pushed into a private bus travelling ahead, resulting in a multi-vehicle pile-up. Several passengers suffered minor injuries in the sequence of collisions.
Rescue personnel quickly shifted the injured pilgrims to nearby medical facilities, where they received treatment. Authorities said the injuries were not life-threatening, and efforts were made to ensure minimal disruption to the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the accident while traffic movement on the highway was restored after the damaged vehicles were cleared from the road.
