Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced an extension of summer holidays for all government and private schools across Hyderabad and other districts of the state. According to revised orders issued by the School Education Department, schools that were originally scheduled to reopen on June 12 for the academic year 2026-27 will now resume classes on June 15. The decision comes after several representations from parents, teachers, and other stakeholders seeking a change in the reopening schedule.
Officials stated that the government carefully reviewed the requests before taking the decision. Since June 13 and June 14 fall on the second Saturday and Sunday respectively, authorities felt that reopening schools on Monday, June 15, would be more practical and convenient for students, parents, and school administrations. The revised schedule applies to all schools functioning under the School Education Department throughout Telangana, including both government-run and private educational institutions.
To compensate for the academic time lost due to the extension, the Education Department has declared July 11, which is the second Saturday of the month, as a regular working day for schools. The department emphasized that maintaining the prescribed instructional days under the Academic Calendar 2026-27 remains a priority. Regional Joint Directors of School Education and District Educational Officers have been instructed to ensure that all schools are informed about the revised reopening date and the additional working day so that academic activities proceed without disruption.
