Karnataka Government to Launch Dedicated Secretariat for Public Complaints

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has announced the establishment of a separate secretariat dedicated to addressing public grievances across the state. The decision was revealed during a high-level meeting with senior bureaucrats and police officials, held just a day after he assumed office. Shivakumar said the new mechanism is aimed at ensuring that citizens who travel to Bengaluru with complaints, demands, or concerns receive proper attention and timely responses from the government.

Explaining the need for the initiative, the Chief Minister noted that several groups arrive in the state capital every day to stage protests and seek government intervention. He said there must be a dedicated system to engage with these individuals, understand their issues, and determine whether their demands are legitimate. Under the proposed arrangement, a minister will be specifically assigned to interact with citizens, listen to their grievances, and coordinate with officials to address their concerns in an organized manner.

Shivakumar also directed all government departments to prepare detailed action plans within the next fifteen days and urged officials to perform their duties with honesty, integrity, and a positive attitude. He emphasized that public service should remain the administration’s top priority and cautioned officers against yielding to external pressures. Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara, Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, Director General of Police M.A. Saleem, and other senior officials attended the meeting where the new governance measures were discussed.
