A shocking incident has emerged from Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district where a female panther was allegedly beaten to death by villagers after the wild animal entered a house in Sitapura village under the Weir police station limits. According to forest officials, the incident took place on Tuesday evening when rescue teams and police personnel rushed to the area after receiving information about the panther’s presence inside a residential home.
Officials stated that forest department teams were trying to safely rescue and capture the animal while police attempted to control the crowd gathering near the house. However, panic and chaos reportedly escalated as villagers surrounded the location. As the panther tried to come out of the house, several people allegedly attacked the animal with sticks and other objects, resulting in its death before the rescue operation could be completed.
Forest officials further revealed that some villagers later attempted to cremate the carcass in an apparent effort to destroy evidence, but the forest department intervened and recovered the partially burnt body. The carcass has now been sent to Bharatpur for post-mortem examination. Authorities confirmed that cases will be registered under the Wildlife Protection Act, while an investigation has been launched into the killing of the protected wild animal.
