The Telangana government has announced a statewide “Women’s Week” celebration from May 25 to 31 under the Praja Palana–Pragati Pranalika initiative, aiming to strengthen women’s economic, social, and political empowerment. The programme will involve women from all sections of society, including Self-Help Group (SHG) members, young girls, senior citizens, and differently-abled women. Events and welfare activities will be conducted across all districts, focusing on financial independence, healthcare, livelihood opportunities, safety, and participation in leadership roles.
A major highlight of the celebrations will be the launch of a special incubator programme for women entrepreneurs by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad on May 29. The government will also organise loan melas, livelihood unit launches, poultry and micro-industry projects, agricultural processing centres, and warehouse groundwork during the week. Tribal Welfare Minister Seethakka stated that the government aims to transform women’s SHGs from simple savings groups into strong drivers of the rural economy through direct village-level development initiatives.
The week-long schedule includes the inauguration of solar power plants and women-operated RTC buses on May 25, inclusion programmes and mock Parliament sessions for teenage girls on May 26, and infrastructure development projects for women’s groups on May 28. The final two days will feature health camps, literacy programme felicitations, bicycle distribution for girls, and the distribution of Indiramma sarees in urban areas. Officials have been instructed to ensure that the programme creates long-term impact beyond the celebrations and contributes meaningfully to women’s empowerment across Telangana.
