Four farmers lost their lives and four others were injured after an iron shed collapsed during heavy winds and rain in Telangana’s Mancherial district on Tuesday night. The tragic incident took place in Luxettipet, where farmers were reportedly trying to protect their harvested crops amid severe weather conditions. The deceased were identified as Venkatesh, Abhiram, Lacchanna, and Nagaraju, while the injured were shifted to hospitals in Luxettipet and Karimnagar for treatment.
The powerful storm caused widespread damage across several parts of Telangana, uprooting trees and bringing down electricity poles. Heavy rainfall also destroyed large quantities of paddy, maize, and other crops kept at government procurement centres in districts including Peddapalli. Farmers alleged that delays in crop procurement forced them to wait for several days at the centres, leaving their produce exposed to the rain and causing massive financial losses.
Following the incident, political leaders reacted strongly and demanded immediate support for the affected families. expressed condolences and urged the state government to announce ₹25 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased farmers, while also criticizing the handling of crop procurement. Telangana BJP president also expressed shock over the tragedy, stating that the farmers died while attempting to save their harvested crops during the storm.
