BJP Appoints Amit Shah, Nadda as Key Observers for Government Formation in Bengal and Assam

The Bharatiya Janata Party has moved quickly after its major election victories by appointing senior leaders to oversee the selection of legislative party leaders in key states. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been named central observer for West Bengal, where the party secured a historic win, ending the long-standing rule of the Trinamool Congress. His role will be to supervise the process of choosing the BJP’s legislative leader, a crucial step before government formation.

In Assam, BJP president J. P. Nadda has been assigned as the central observer for a similar process. The party retained power in the state for a third consecutive term, reinforcing its political dominance in the region. Additionally, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has been appointed as co-observer for Assam, indicating the party’s intent to ensure a tightly managed and coordinated leadership transition.

For West Bengal, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has been named co-observer, supporting Amit Shah in overseeing the internal process. These appointments signal that the BJP is prioritizing structured leadership selection and stability following its electoral gains. The move is less about ceremony and more about control—ensuring the leadership choice aligns with the party’s broader national strategy and avoids internal friction at a critical moment.
