A coach of an empty suburban train went off track near Dombivli station in Thane district on Monday morning, disrupting one of Mumbai’s busiest rail routes during peak hours. Since the train was not carrying passengers at the time, no injuries were reported, but the incident quickly affected regular operations and created heavy congestion across the network.
Officials said the derailment took place around 8:09 AM when the train was moving from the Kalwa car shed towards Kalyan. As a result, several services on the Central Railway line were delayed by 20 to 30 minutes. The disruption led to overcrowding at stations and inside trains, as commuters struggled to manage the sudden delays during rush hour.
Railway teams responded promptly and managed to rerail the affected coach by around 10:10 AM. During the restoration process, trains from the slow line were diverted to the fast line to maintain movement. Services gradually returned to normal by late morning, but not before causing significant inconvenience to thousands of daily passengers.
