Delhi Police Detain Over 1,300, Seize Weapons and Drugs in Massive New Year Crackdown

Ahead of New Year celebrations, launched a large-scale preventive drive titled Operation Aaghat 3.0, resulting in the arrest of 285 people and the detention of more than 1,300 individuals across the national capital. The action targeted offences under the Excise Act, NDPS Act and Gambling Act, as authorities moved to curb crime and prevent disturbances during the festive period. Police said the operation was conducted across multiple districts as part of heightened year-end security measures.

During the crackdown, police recovered a significant cache of illegal items, including 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges, 27 knives and over 12,000 quarters of illicit liquor. Narcotics seizures included 6.01 kilograms of ganja, while ₹2.30 lakh in cash, 310 mobile phones, 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler were also confiscated. In addition, 116 individuals classified as having a criminal background or “bad character” were arrested, underlining the operation’s focus on habitual offenders.

Deputy Commissioner of Police said the operation was a crucial step toward maintaining law and order during the New Year period. He confirmed that those arrested have been formally booked under relevant laws, while preventive detentions were carried out to deter potential criminal activity. Police officials stressed that such intensified enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to ensure public safety and a peaceful start to the new year in the capital.
