A man attempted to take his own life at the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah on Thursday, December 25, triggering an immediate emergency response by security personnel deployed at the holy site. The incident occurred when the man reportedly tried to jump from the upper levels of the mosque complex, causing alarm among worshippers present at the time.
According to a statement shared by the Saudi General Directorate of Public Security, security forces acted swiftly to contain the situation and prevent harm to others. Video footage released by authorities shows officers intervening to stop the man from falling. During the rescue attempt, one security officer sustained injuries while trying to restrain the individual.
The Special Security Force responsible for safeguarding the Grand Mosque said both the man and the injured officer were immediately shifted to hospital for medical treatment. Officials added that all required legal and administrative procedures were completed following the incident.
