Fake Voter List Featuring Samantha, Tamannaah, and Rakul Sparks Police Probe in Hyderabad

Hyderabad police have launched an investigation after a fake voter list containing the names and photographs of popular actresses Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Rakul Preet Singh surfaced on social media. The fabricated list, which went viral earlier this week, falsely claimed that the three celebrities were registered voters at the same Hyderabad address using manipulated Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers. Following a complaint from Assistant Electoral Registration Officer Syed Yahiya Kamal, the Madhura Nagar Police filed a case and confirmed the entries were created using doctored images and forged voter details.

Officials said the misinformation appeared to be part of a coordinated attempt to mislead the public and undermine confidence in the electoral process. A case has been registered under Sections 336(4) — forgery with intent to harm another’s reputation — and 353(1)(C) — public mischief — of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police teams are now working to trace the origin of the viral posts and identify those responsible for creating and sharing the fake list. Authorities have also warned that forwarding or amplifying such unverified information could invite legal action.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) issued a statement urging citizens to rely only on official sources like the Election Commission’s verified platforms for voter-related information. The timing of the fake list’s circulation has raised concerns, as it comes just weeks before the crucial Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll on November 11, with counting set for November 14. Election officials emphasized that any attempt to spread false data during the election period will be treated as a serious offense and prosecuted under cyber and electoral laws.
