Telangana High Court Rejects BRS Plea Alleging Voter List Irregularities in Jubilee Hills

The Telangana High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and party candidate Maganti Sunitha, who alleged large-scale irregularities in the voter list for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency. The court observed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) was already examining the objections raised as per legal procedures and, therefore, judicial intervention at this stage was unnecessary.

The petitioners claimed that their complaints submitted to the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer on October 13 and 14 detailed serious electoral malpractices, including nearly 1,942 duplicate votes and over 12,000 bogus or unrelated entries in the constituency’s voter roll. Despite their repeated representations, senior advocate Dama Seshadri Naidu argued that the ECI had not taken adequate corrective measures to ensure a fair election process.

In response, ECI counsel Desai Avinash Reddy clarified that updating voter rolls is a continuous exercise involving additions and deletions throughout the year. The final list was published in July without objections, but recent complaints are now under review, with a report sought from the District Election Officer. The court concluded that the petition was premature, as voter roll revisions can continue until the nomination deadline, set for October 21. Polling for the Jubilee Hills by-election will be held on November 11.
