Wall Collapse at Hyderabad Convention Hall Claims One Life, Injures Five

A tragic incident occurred in Gundlapochampally, Pet Basheerabad, Hyderabad, where a portion of a wall at a convention hall collapsed on Monday, September 15, leading to the death of one worker and injuries to five others. The accident happened around 3:30 pm following heavy overnight rains that weakened the structure. The deceased, identified as 50-year-old Gagan, died on the spot, while the injured were immediately shifted to CMR Hospital for treatment. Police teams rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area, and began an investigation into the cause of the collapse.

According to officials, the victims were migrant labourers employed at a ready-mix plant owned by Aparna Constructions. They had been residing in temporary tin sheds erected next to the convention hall, which made them vulnerable when the wall gave way. The heavy rains lashing Hyderabad over the past 24 hours were cited as the primary reason for the collapse, highlighting once again the fragile state of construction sites and temporary shelters during monsoon conditions. Local residents expressed concern that poor safety measures and negligence by construction companies continue to endanger the lives of workers.

This incident has raised serious questions about accountability and worker safety in Hyderabad’s rapidly growing construction sector. While the police have registered a case and initiated inquiries, labour rights activists are demanding stricter enforcement of safety norms at building sites. As rains continue to batter the city and warnings of more downpours remain in effect until September 19, authorities have urged construction firms to secure their premises and ensure the well-being of their employees. For the families of Gagan and the injured labourers, however, the damage has already been done, leaving behind grief, financial hardship, and unanswered questions about responsibility.
