U.S. Deports 33 Gujarat Natives, Two Flights Land in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad airport witnessed the arrival of 33 Gujarat natives deported from the United States for illegal stay. These individuals were part of a larger group of 112 Indians who were sent back on a U.S. military aircraft that landed in Amritsar on Sunday night, February 16, 2025. Officials confirmed that as soon as these deportees reached Ahmedabad on two separate flights on Monday, February 17, they were transported to their respective hometowns under police supervision. The latest deportation has increased the total number of Gujarat residents sent back from the U.S. to 74 since February 6.

Airport Police Station inspector S.G. Khambhla stated that three deportees—two from Mehsana and one from Gandhinagar—arrived at noon, while 30 others landed on a later flight at 2 p.m. To ensure smooth transportation, police vehicles were deployed at the airport to take them home. The authorities have been closely monitoring such deportations, as illegal immigration through unauthorized routes has been a persistent concern. Many deportees reportedly used the dangerous “donkey route,” which involves perilous journeys through multiple countries before entering the U.S. illegally.

Earlier, on February 6, another batch of 33 immigrants from Gujarat, out of 104 deported Indians, landed at Ahmedabad airport. They were also escorted to their hometowns, primarily in Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Patan, and Ahmedabad districts. The growing trend of deportations has once again brought illegal immigration into focus, highlighting the risks and legal consequences faced by those attempting to enter foreign countries through unlawful means.
