In a crackdown on digital obscenity, police in Sambhal arrested four individuals — including two young women — for allegedly posting vulgar and provocative content on Instagram for the sake of fame and monetary gain. Acting on several public complaints, law enforcement detained Mehak and Pari, along with their associates Hina and Zarrar Alam, on Tuesday. The group ran a controversial account under the handle @MehakPari143, where they regularly uploaded reels filled with explicit language, obscene gestures, and sexually suggestive dialogues.

According to officials, the content was carefully crafted to gain rapid popularity and boost their follower count. Alam, identified as the video editor of the team, played a key role in producing and managing the social media posts. The accused reportedly earned between ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 per month through monetization and brand collaborations. While the group initially achieved their goals of fame and income, their strategy backfired as community members lodged repeated complaints, accusing them of corrupting public morals and promoting indecency online.

The arrests have sparked discussions around the growing misuse of social media platforms for adult-themed content under the guise of entertainment. Authorities have stressed that such violations will be dealt with sternly, especially when the motive is to influence impressionable audiences for profit. The case also highlights the urgent need for digital literacy, responsible content creation, and stronger mechanisms to monitor and report online obscenity. The police continue to investigate whether others were involved and are reviewing the group’s digital footprint for further violations.
