Heavy overnight rains in Telangana have triggered severe flooding across Kamareddy district, leaving several areas submerged and forcing residents to remain trapped inside their homes. The Kamareddy Pedda Cheruvu overflowed, inundating the Housing Board Colony and cutting off access to essential services. Reports suggest that more than 50 people remain stranded inside their houses, while at least fifteen cars and a dozen two-wheelers were swept away in the gushing waters. The National Highway linking Kamareddy and Hyderabad has also been shut down due to the dangerous flood situation, further crippling connectivity in the region.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed in full swing, focusing their operations around the backwaters of the Kalyan Project near Annasagar village in Yellareddypet Mandal. So far, nine people have been successfully rescued, while several others are awaiting help in low-lying areas. The railway network has also been hit hard, with floodwaters washing away tracks near Kamareddy, leading to the suspension of all train services along the Kamareddy–Nizamabad route. Officials have urged citizens in vulnerable zones to stay indoors and reach out to relief teams for assistance.
Adding to the concerns, weather expert T. Balaji issued a flash flood warning for Kamareddy, Medak, and Siddipet districts. According to his data, the region has already received unprecedented rainfall, with Rajampet recording a staggering 423 mm, Ramayanpet 316.3 mm, Bhiknoor 299 mm, Narsingi Shivanoor 289.4 mm, and Kamareddy town itself logging 236 mm within just a few hours. With an additional 100 mm of rainfall predicted in the coming hours, authorities remain on high alert as the crisis continues to unfold across northern Telangana.
