Hyderabad: Telangana is likely to receive below-normal rainfall during the 2026 southwest monsoon season, according to the latest forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). While rainfall is expected to remain normal during June and July, weather experts predict that August and September could witness a significant decline in precipitation. Parts of the state may also continue to experience heatwave conditions during June.
The IMD’s seasonal outlook indicates that southern India could receive less rainfall than the long-term average, with Telangana among the states facing a higher risk of rainfall deficiency. Hyderabad-based weather expert T. Balaji stated that the monsoon is expected to arrive in Telangana during the second week of June. He added that northern districts are likely to be more affected by the rainfall shortfall, whereas central Telangana may receive comparatively better rainfall.
According to the district-wise forecast, areas including Kamareddy, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Vikarabad, Mulugu, Siddipet, Karimnagar, Warangal, and Mahabubabad are expected to receive normal rainfall. However, districts such as Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, Nirmal, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri may experience below-normal rainfall during the monsoon season.
