The Mumbai Police have arrested a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, for allegedly stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan at his Mumbai residence ¹. The accused, who was living in India under the false name Bijoy Das, was arrested near Mumbai after a massive 70-hour manhunt involving 30 police teams ².
According to the police, Shehzad entered India illegally five to six months ago and had been working in a housekeeping agency. He allegedly broke into Saif Ali Khan’s home with the intention of robbery, using the rear staircase and air-conditioning ducts to gain access ¹. The accused has claimed that he did not know he was breaking into Saif Ali Khan’s home, but police suspect he planned the robbery due to being out of work.
Saif Ali Khan, who suffered six stab injuries, including one near his spine, is recovering well after undergoing emergency surgery. The accused has been booked and will be produced in court, with the police seeking custody for further investigation.
