Revanth Reddy Credits Naidu for Laying Hyderabad’s IT Foundation, Seeks Metro Expansion & Financial Aid

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday acknowledged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s role in shaping Hyderabad into a global IT hub. Speaking at the CREDAI Property Show in HITEX, Madhapur, he stated that the credit for conceptualising and developing HITEC City in the 1990s rightfully belongs to Naidu, who was then the chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. Revanth noted that while many contributions often go unrecognised, Naidu’s vision made Hyderabad an international technology center and laid the foundation for its rapid urban growth. His remarks reflected rare political courtesy, as he openly admired the long-lasting impact of Naidu’s governance on the city’s progress.

Turning his focus to Hyderabad’s present-day challenges, Revanth Reddy criticised the poor planning and failure to expand Metro services over the past decade, which he argued has worsened the city’s traffic woes. He asserted that the Congress government is now restructuring Metro connectivity with fresh alignments to link LB Nagar, Nagole, Chandrayangutta, the Agricultural University, and the international airport. Emphasising that infrastructure development should never be compromised for political reasons, he reassured stakeholders that his administration was committed to long-term planning to address urban transport issues.

The chief minister also highlighted Telangana’s growing financial strain, revealing the state is grappling with a heavy debt crisis. He appealed directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support the restructuring of loans worth ₹2 lakh crore, while pointing out that his government had already managed to restructure ₹26,000 crore at a lower interest rate of 7.5% for 35 years. Despite being from opposing political camps, Revanth Reddy acknowledged Naidu as a mentor-like figure who not only shaped Hyderabad’s IT backbone but also influenced an entire generation of Andhra politicians. His remarks stood out as a rare instance of cross-party recognition, underlining how Hyderabad’s growth narrative transcends political divides.
