A tragic incident occurred in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district on Friday morning when a portion of the Piplod Government School building in Manoherthana block collapsed, leaving four children dead and 17 others injured. The students were assembling for their morning prayers when the roof suddenly gave way, causing panic and chaos. The police were informed of the incident around 7:45 am, following which immediate rescue efforts were launched with the help of teachers, villagers, and local authorities.
According to Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar, ten critically injured students were rushed to Jhalawar hospital, with three to four of them reported to be in serious condition. Circle inspector Nandkishore confirmed that two students were referred to a specialized health center for advanced treatment. At the time of the collapse, at least 27 students were present in the upper primary classes (6 and 7) when the structure failed. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure that all injured students receive the best possible medical care.
Education Minister Madan Dilawar has ordered a high-level inquiry to determine the cause of the collapse. He has instructed the district collector and education officers to supervise the treatment of the injured and provide all necessary assistance to the affected families. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully have also conveyed their condolences, with Gehlot praying for the speedy recovery of the injured students. The incident has raised serious questions about the maintenance and structural safety of government schools in the region.
