Questions Mount Over AIMIM’s Sudden Expulsion of MLC Mirza Rahmat Baig

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is facing growing questions after it abruptly expelled Telangana MLC Mirza Rahmat Baig and directed him to resign from the Legislative Council without publicly disclosing the reasons behind the decision. The move was announced while Baig was on an Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, adding to the controversy surrounding the timing of the action. Although reports of a leaked video have circulated on social media, the party has neither confirmed nor denied them, choosing instead to remain silent on the exact grounds for the expulsion.

The decision has sparked reactions from political leaders and activists, with Hyderabad Youth Courage (HYC) president Salman Khan demanding greater transparency from the party. While acknowledging that AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi acted swiftly after receiving complaints against Baig, Khan argued that simply removing an elected representative without informing the public was unacceptable. He further alleged that similar misconduct involved other AIMIM representatives and urged the party leadership to investigate all such cases instead of limiting action to a single individual. Khan also referred to unresolved public grievances, including the Sheikh Sayeed Bawazir murder case, questioning the party’s commitment to accountability.

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader Nitin Nandekar also called on AIMIM to reveal the complete reasons behind Baig’s removal. He alleged that the former MLC had misused his political influence in the Goshamahal constituency by intimidating activists and municipal officials, claiming that repeated complaints ultimately forced the party to act. As of now, AIMIM has not issued any detailed explanation regarding the expulsion, and the Telangana Legislative Council Chairman has not yet received Baig’s resignation. Until the party clarifies its position, speculation surrounding the case is expected to continue.
