Qatar’s Gaza Truce Plan: Hostage Release and Phased Withdrawal in Final Stages

Jerusalem: A breakthrough in negotiations has brought Qatar’s draft truce proposal for the Gaza conflict closer to fruition, potentially ending the 15-month-long war. The initial phase of the agreement, as revealed by an Israeli official, involves the release of 33 hostages by Hamas, including children, women (including female soldiers), men over 50, and individuals who are sick or injured. This stage will pave the way for negotiations for the release of the remaining hostages, including male soldiers and young men of military age, along with the recovery of the deceased.

In terms of troop movements, the plan includes a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces while retaining control over critical areas to protect border towns and villages. A security mechanism will also oversee unarmed residents returning to North Gaza to prevent weapon smuggling. Concurrently, Palestinian prisoners, excluding those involved in deadly attacks, are set to be released, with the numbers tied to the live hostages’ count.
