Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge have urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene a special session of Parliament following the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. In their separate letters dated April 28, both leaders emphasized the urgent need for national unity and a collective response through the Parliament. The attack, claimed by The Resistance Front—an affiliate of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba—targeted tourists in the Baisaran Valley, killing 26 and injuring several others, including a Nepali citizen.

In his letter, Rahul Gandhi stated that the incident has shaken the conscience of every Indian and that Parliament must stand as a symbol of solidarity in the face of such violence. He asserted that the nation must come together to condemn terrorism and demonstrate resilience. Kharge echoed these sentiments in his communication, stressing that convening both Houses of Parliament would send a strong and unified message to the perpetrators and reassure citizens of the government’s commitment to national security.

Adding to the chorus, RJD MP Manoj Jha also wrote to the Prime Minister, calling for an exclusive session to discuss the broader implications of the Pahalgam attack. He highlighted the role of Parliament as a platform where the concerns and resolve of the nation must be voiced. Meanwhile, the government conducted an all-party briefing chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and addressed by Home Minister Amit Shah. Rahul Gandhi, who attended the meeting, extended full support to any decisive action planned by the government, with the Congress Party promising to back all efforts to bring the attackers to justice.
