Medak Sees Protests After Chakali Ilamma Statue Damaged, Police Cite Monkeys as Cause

Tension gripped Medak district on Tuesday after the statue of social reformer Chakali Ilamma was found damaged in the Auto Nagar area. The incident led to protests by local leaders and residents, who blocked the road and demanded that authorities identify those responsible and take strict action. The damaged statue attracted a large gathering, raising concerns about law and order, following which police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents.

As speculation spread over the cause of the damage, police launched an inquiry and examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area. According to the Circle Inspector of Medak Town Police Station, the footage indicated that monkeys had climbed onto the statue and accidentally caused the damage. Officials said there was no evidence of deliberate vandalism by any individual, though the investigation remains open while authorities continue verifying all available evidence.

The incident nevertheless sparked strong reactions from political leaders and members of the public, many of whom demanded greater protection for statues of prominent historical figures and quicker maintenance of public monuments. Protesters urged the administration to restore the damaged statue at the earliest and ensure similar incidents do not occur in the future. Police have appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and allow the investigation to proceed based on factual evidence.
