American singer Mary Millben has alleged that the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is receiving financial support from donors based in the United States who, according to her, oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his leadership. Speaking amid the ongoing political protests in New Delhi over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Millben urged India’s youth not to remain silent. She called on “young patriots” across the country to organise peaceful demonstrations against what she described as disruptive forces, while stressing the importance of protecting democracy through lawful and non-violent means.
Millben further claimed that certain international donor groups follow a pattern of backing individuals and organisations opposed to conservative governments around the world. She alleged that these groups identify individuals educated in the United States, encourage them to return to their home countries, and financially support movements aimed at creating political instability. Expressing confidence in Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, she stated that he would not bow to external pressure and encouraged young Indians to unite in support of the country’s democratic institutions and national development.
The American singer, who enjoys popularity in India for her rendition of the national anthem Jana Gana Mana and the devotional song Om Jai Jagdish Hare, reiterated that every democratic movement should have a peaceful counter-voice. Her remarks came as protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar continue in the national capital. Millben concluded by calling upon Indian youth to participate peacefully in public discourse and emphasised that democratic values should always be upheld through constitutional and non-violent means.
