The Maha Kumbh 2025 began in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, with lakhs of devotees gathering to take a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam on the auspicious day of ‘Paush Purnima.’ Amid chants of ‘Jai Ganga Maiyya’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev,’ the spiritual fervor of pilgrims was evident despite the bone-chilling temperatures and thick fog. By 9:30 AM, over 60 lakh devotees, including international visitors, had already participated in the sacred ritual. The festival, spanning 45 days until February 26, is expected to draw over 45 crore attendees from across the globe, showcasing the grandeur of Sanatan Dharma and Indian traditions.
Massive security arrangements have been implemented to ensure the safety of devotees during the Maha Kumbh. Advanced technologies, including underwater drones, AI-powered cameras, and tethered aerial drones, provide real-time surveillance and crowd management. With over 2,700 AI cameras and facial recognition systems in place, security teams are closely monitoring entry points and public areas. Additionally, a seven-tier security system with intelligence squads, cyber warriors, and emergency response teams has been deployed to manage the enormous influx of people. The arrangements also include 56 cyber help desks, checkpoints at key locations, and specialized water police equipped with life-saving tools to ensure safety along the riverbanks.
The festival’s international appeal was evident, with visitors from countries like South Korea, Japan, Spain, and the United States participating in the event. Many devotees praised the meticulous planning and arrangements made by the authorities, ensuring a seamless experience at the ghats.
