Former Telangana Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) appeared before the Justice PC Ghose Commission on Wednesday in Hyderabad. The commission is investigating alleged irregularities in the multi-crore Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). Security was significantly tightened at BRK Bhavan, where the commission’s office is situated, with only KCR and nine other senior BRS leaders allowed entry. The inquiry marks a major political development, as KCR’s role in the re-engineering and execution of the KLIP has come under intense scrutiny.
The commission, headed by retired Supreme Court Justice PC Ghose, is probing several critical aspects of the Kaleshwaram project. Key concerns include the controversial shift of the project’s source from Tummidihatti to Medigadda, structural design flaws, substandard quality in construction, the sinking of piers at Medigadda barrage, and the absence of formal Cabinet approval before initiating work. KCR is expected to respond to detailed queries based on technical reports, departmental notes, and testimonies from over 100 government officials already examined by the panel.
Among those who accompanied KCR were senior leaders like MLC Madhusudhana Chari, MLAs Harish Rao, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Padma Rao Goud, and MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra. The BRS Party shared visuals from the high-profile visit on social media, asserting that the project was executed with long-term public interest in mind. Notably, both Harish Rao and BJP MP Eatala Rajender have previously deposed before the commission. The inquiry is expected to influence the political discourse in Telangana in the coming months, especially as opposition parties intensify calls for accountability.
