New Delhi: Indian intelligence and security agencies have heightened surveillance along the India-Bangladesh border following reports that Jamaat-e-Islami and several allied organizations are preparing large-scale demonstrations in Bangladesh. The protests, scheduled to begin in border districts and culminate in a major rally on June 15, are centered on allegations that India is forcibly pushing illegal Bangladeshi migrants across the border. Indian officials have rejected these claims, maintaining that all repatriations are being conducted strictly in accordance with established legal procedures and bilateral agreements between the two countries.
According to security officials, concerns extend beyond the demonstrations themselves, with intelligence agencies warning of potential misinformation campaigns aimed at fueling anti-India sentiment. Authorities allege that certain groups are attempting to portray routine immigration enforcement measures as unlawful actions by Indian agencies, including the Border Security Force (BSF). Officials believe such narratives are designed to create public anger, undermine bilateral relations, and provoke unrest in sensitive border regions. The situation is being closely monitored as several of the planned protests are expected to take place in areas where Jamaat-e-Islami enjoys significant political influence.
Indian agencies have also expressed concerns that escalating rhetoric could increase tensions between the two neighboring countries at a time when diplomatic relations have shown signs of improvement. Officials noted that Bangladesh’s current leadership has emphasized the importance of maintaining constructive ties with India, while New Delhi continues to seek cooperation on issues including border management and nationality verification.
