India Condemns Deadly Church Shooting in Jordan, Extends Full Support to the Kingdom

India has strongly condemned the deadly attack on a Greek Orthodox church in Jordan’s Karak governorate, where seven people were killed and at least 40 others were injured. In an official statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the shooting as a “heinous attack” and expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. India also conveyed its solidarity with the Government and the people of Jordan during this difficult period, reaffirming its unwavering stand against terrorism in all its forms.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also reacted to the tragedy, saying he was deeply shocked by the attack and extending his sympathies to the victims’ families. He wished a speedy recovery to those injured and reiterated India’s commitment to standing with Jordan. The attack took place on Friday in the Hmoud area of Karak governorate, where unidentified gunmen reportedly entered the church during a gathering and opened fire before fleeing the scene, leaving behind widespread destruction and panic.

Jordanian authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, although no arrests have been officially announced so far. CCTV footage and videos recorded by witnesses showed armed attackers firing near the church, while images from inside the building revealed shattered glass and bloodstained floors. No organisation has claimed responsibility for the assault, and investigators are continuing to examine the motive behind one of the deadliest attacks on a place of worship in the country in recent years.
