Hyderabad: After a brief pause in heavy showers, Telangana is once again bracing for an intense spell of monsoon activity as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued a yellow alert across several districts until August 29. The fresh warning comes as the state prepares for more rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls, which are expected to continue through the week. The development has raised concerns about waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and a further dip in temperatures across both urban and rural regions.
According to IMD forecasts, Hyderabad and other districts are likely to witness widespread thundershowers during the evening and night hours, while mist or hazy conditions may prevail during mornings. Weather enthusiast T. Balaji, known for his accurate predictions, has also cautioned that the entire state will face heavy rainfall under the influence of a low-pressure area (LPA). The city of Hyderabad is expected to receive moderate rainfall on most evenings, while districts such as Nagarkurnool and Khammam could record significant downpours. Officials have urged residents to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable zones.
The impact of the rainfall is already being felt as temperatures have dropped notably across Telangana. On Monday, Nagarkurnool recorded the state’s lowest temperature at 27.2 degrees Celsius, while Hyderabad’s Shaikpet reported a dip to 30.4 degrees Celsius. With the IMD predicting that rains will persist until at least August 29, citizens have been advised to plan their commutes carefully and take precautions against possible flooding in low-lying areas. Authorities are also on alert to monitor water levels in reservoirs and rivers, ensuring that timely measures are taken to prevent any major disruptions caused by the fresh spell of monsoon rains.
