HYDRA Demolition Controversy: Historical Gurudwara and Temple at Risk

A recent petition filed in the Telangana High Court has brought attention to the potential demolition of Baba Mehr Dasji Gurudwara and a Hanuman temple in Hyderabad, citing historical significance and illegal marking for demolition ¹. The petitioners argue that these structures, allocated by the Nizam over 4.20 acres, have existed since the Nizam era and should be protected. Despite being located outside the Musi Riverbed and buffer zone, the land is marked as “RB-X” for demolition.

The Supreme Court has previously ruled that any religious structures encroaching on roads, water bodies, or railway tracks are subject to demolition, emphasizing public safety as paramount ¹. However, in this case, the petitioners claim that the structures are not encroaching on public spaces and should be spared. The High Court has declined to hear the petition urgently, with a possible review on Monday.

The petitioners have requested the court to direct authorities to submit old records of the Musi River to support their claims. Additionally, they allege that municipal and revenue officials are attempting to demolish homes near the Petlaburju Police Transport Organization under similar pretenses ¹.
