A police Sub-Inspector lost his life after being struck by an unidentified motorcycle while performing security duties during the Ganesh immersion procession at NTR Marg near Tank Bund in Hyderabad on Thursday. The deceased officer, identified as K. Venkanna of Kothagudem 2-Town Police Station, was deployed as part of the extensive security arrangements for the festival. According to officials, he was crossing the road when a speeding motorcycle hit him, after which the rider fled the scene without stopping.

The impact left SI Venkanna with severe injuries, and he was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Despite the efforts of doctors, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Following the incident, police registered a hit-and-run case and launched a search operation to identify and arrest the motorcyclist responsible for the fatal accident. Authorities are examining available evidence, including CCTV footage, to trace the accused.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar expressed deep grief over the officer’s death, describing it as a tragic loss that occurred while the SI was selflessly performing his duty to ensure public safety during the Ganesh immersion celebrations. Extending condolences to the bereaved family, the Commissioner assured that the Hyderabad Police Department would stand firmly with them during this difficult time. He also stated that strict legal action would be taken against the person responsible for the accident, reaffirming that reckless driving leading to such tragedies would not be tolerated.
