Hyderabad Police to Take Suo Motu Action After Shaikpet Meat Shop Closure Row

Hyderabad Police have said they will initiate suo motu action after a man allegedly forced the closure of a meat shop in Shaikpet, claiming such establishments cannot operate within 100 metres of a school. The incident occurred near Krishnaveni Talent School at Lalamma Gardens, where a video circulating on social media purportedly shows the man confronting the shop workers, using abusive language and pulling down the shop’s shutter before entering the school premises to question its staff.

According to police, no formal complaint had been received as of Tuesday. However, Tolichowki Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Syed Fiaz clarified that while pan shops are prohibited from operating near schools, no such restriction exists for meat shops. He stated that the police would verify all the facts and proceed with legal action even in the absence of a complaint if any violation of the law is established.

The individual seen in the viral video has been identified as Sampath Mudhiraj, who is reportedly associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Meanwhile, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) alleged that the incident was an attempt to disturb communal harmony in Hyderabad. AIMIM MLC Riyazul Hassan Affandi has submitted a complaint against Mudhiraj, following which the police are expected to examine the matter and decide on further action.
