Hyderabad: As the monsoon clouds loom over the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has joined hands with the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to launch a large-scale preparedness drive to combat urban flooding. A total of 130 Monsoon Emergency Teams under GHMC and 51 Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams from HYDRAA have been mobilized across flood-prone zones of Hyderabad. Each GHMC team will comprise 12 personnel, while each DRF unit will have 15 members, ensuring rapid response capability. These teams will remain on standby to swiftly handle emergencies such as water stagnation and sewer overflow during heavy rains.
A high-level review meeting chaired at the Municipal Secretary’s office emphasized public safety and minimal disruption as top priorities. Both agencies have synchronized operations, focusing on swift water drainage, road clearance, and public assistance. Special attention will be given to residential colonies and key traffic junctions where waterlogging has historically disrupted daily life. GHMC will oversee the removal of silt and debris from the stormwater drains, while HYDRAA will provide technical and manpower support to reinforce the operations during peak hours or major incidents.
In a bid to ensure uninterrupted movement and minimize commuter distress, all 181 teams will operate under HYDRAA’s direct supervision for real-time coordination and efficiency. The comprehensive monsoon action plan includes deploying machinery, pump sets, barricades, and emergency lights. Additionally, local complaints about water stagnation will be tracked through a centralized helpline and mobile units. Authorities have reassured citizens that every measure is being taken to ensure their safety during the rains, and that Hyderabad will remain resilient against seasonal urban flooding challenges.
