An Armed Reserve constable with the Hyderabad Police was critically injured after allegedly attempting suicide with his service pistol at his residence in Hayathnagar on Sunday morning. The constable, identified as Muthyalapayati Krishna Chaitanya of the 2020 batch, was posted under the jurisdiction of Hyderabad Police Commissioner AV Ranganath. The incident occurred at Sai Surya Nagar in Munaganur, where the constable reportedly fired at himself inside his house, triggering panic among family members and neighbours.
He was immediately shifted to Kamineni Hospital, where doctors admitted him for emergency treatment and placed him under close medical observation. Hospital sources said his condition is being continuously monitored, though no official medical bulletin detailing the extent of his injuries has been released so far. Senior police officials confirmed that the constable was alive when brought to the hospital and that efforts were focused on stabilising him before conducting any detailed questioning.
The exact reason behind the suicide attempt remains unclear at this stage. Preliminary suspicion points towards possible financial stress or personal issues, but police officials have stressed that no conclusion will be drawn until the investigation is completed. Officers from Hayathnagar police station have registered a case and begun inquiries, including speaking to family members and colleagues and examining service records. Authorities said further details will be shared once the probe establishes the circumstances that led to the incident, underscoring the seriousness with which the department is treating the matter.
