The Telangana High Court questioned Kamareddy BJP MLA Venkataramana Reddy for approaching the judiciary instead of addressing the issue of lake encroachments through legislative discussions in the Assembly. The MLA had filed a petition alleging that several real estate developers were illegally occupying lakes and water bodies across Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts to construct multi-storied buildings. Justice B. Vijayasen Reddy, who presided over the case, sought clarification on why the legislator did not take up the issue within the Assembly before resorting to legal action.

During the hearing, the MLA’s counsel stated that his client had already raised the matter in the Assembly, where the concerned minister had advised him to report such violations through HYDRAA — a dedicated authority for monitoring and removing encroachments. Following the minister’s instructions, the MLA submitted complaints to HYDRAA, HMDA, and GHMC, but alleged that no substantial action was taken. The petition emphasized the growing threat to Hyderabad’s water bodies due to unregulated urban expansion and the authorities’ inaction.

Responding to the allegations, the state government’s counsel argued that the issue required coordination among multiple departments and requested additional time to compile detailed information. The court agreed to the plea, issued notices to the state government and concerned civic bodies, and adjourned the matter to October 30 for the next hearing. The bench also sought updates from HYDRAA on previous measures taken to curb illegal constructions around lakes and restore government lands.
