A chain snatching incident involving Congress MP M Sudha occurred on August 4 in Delhi’s high-security Chanakyapuri area, sparking concerns over safety in the diplomatic enclave. Sudha, a Lok Sabha member from Tamil Nadu, was reportedly taking a morning walk near the Poland embassy when a man on a two-wheeler suddenly approached and violently snatched her gold chain, weighing over four sovereigns. The act also left her with an injury on her neck, prompting her to speak out about the lack of security in such a sensitive location.
Following the incident, Sudha expressed her distress and frustration over the breach of safety, stating, “Sir, I have suffered injury on my neck, lost my gold chain weighing more than four sovereigns, and I am highly traumatised by this criminal attack,” in a message addressed to Home Minister Amit Shah. Her comments raised questions about law enforcement in diplomatic zones and the vulnerability of women—even elected officials—in such areas. The shocking nature of the incident triggered a swift and widespread response from law enforcement agencies.
Multiple teams from Delhi Police were deployed, and the investigation quickly led to the identification and arrest of the accused, who is a resident of Okhla. The police successfully recovered the stolen chain and confirmed the case closure in a statement shared on social media platform X. The incident has reignited discussions about urban safety, the effectiveness of security in VIP zones, and the rising brazenness of petty crimes in the national capital.
